Boom Shankar Biography

Europe based Boom Shankar is a Dj for Psychedelic Trance, the label manager of BMSS Records, a mover, groover and event creator within Europe and Asia.

Having been initiated into the Goa Trance scene in the early Nineties and by travelling the globe ever since, his sets are a mirror of the constant melting pot of fundamental Psytrance characteristics.

Whether he is guiding the dance floor from the sunset through the night, from a peaking full moon into the sunrise, from the morning into a sun-blessed day, or closing a festival with one of his extended sets, the outcome is always a voyage filled with a depth and an energy that allows the crowd to experience a sense of freedom and a full expression of their self through Trance.

Energetic, ecstatic, transcendental, deep, mature, hypnotic and clearly distinguishable. Eye to eye with a unique and captivating smile.

Due to an experience of nearly 30 years behind the decks, and by having played at a plethora of underground & major events worldwide, he has developed a full understanding of the flow and the energies of each dance floor and is fully flexible in terms of "styles" which he considers a separation necessary to overcome. "Keeping it holistic" describes his approach to Psychedelic Trance probably best.

Through his fully improvised impromptu sets, he is able to interact personally with each dance floor, taking the audience on a trans-formative journey. His sets are not a performance, they are a direct form of communication through music, not a monologue but a full dialogue with the dancefloor which can last up to 12 hours. All of those journeys are unique and created in this specific moment in sync with the energy and the vibe of each dancefloor, a characteristic of the original approach to Djing Armin considers essential and necessary to keeping alive.

For Boom Shankar, this process of mutual giving and receiving between the Dj and the audience has led to rewarding and meaningful feedback from festivals like BOOM and Insomnia in Portugal, Universo Paralello in Brazil, Fusion, VooV, Indian Spirit and Antaris in Germany, Ozora and S.U.N. in Hungary, Glade in the UK, Summer never Ends, Reisefieber and Timegate in Switzerland, Hadra and Son Libre in France, Vortex in South Africa, Doof and Moksha in Israel, Transahara in Morocco, Transylvania Calling in Romania, Ometeotl, Poison and Fractal Dimension in Mexico, Universal Religion in Nepal and VER and Hill Top in India.

Memorable performances include headlining events in clubs from New York to San Francisco and Los Angeles, Montreal to Mexico City, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Shenzen, Osaka and Seoul to London, Berlin, Beirut and Tel Aviv, Cape Town to Melbourne, Bangalore and Goa and in nearly every other major venue and Trance epicentre in the world.

Besides this, Boom Shankar is the label manager of BMSS Records, where he has released a dozen best-selling compilations so far:

Transmissions, Transition, Cosmic Connections, the Trancendance triptych series (Prologue - Denouement - Epilogue), Trancefusion 1 and Trancefusion 2, the 20 years anniversary double CD compilation Return to the Source I and Return to the Source II and Ailiphilia Chapter 1 and 2.

Those compilations featured artists such as Aes Dana, Braincell, Tristan, Technossomy, Etnica, Pleiadians, Hux Flux, Total Eclipse, Sonic Species & Avalon, Eat Static, Pogo, Lucas & Mechanimal, Egorythmia, Ovnimoon, Atmos, Cosmosis, Electrypnose, Hujaboy, Captain Hook, Headroom & Zen Mechanics, Entheogenic, Talpa, Martian Arts, Outsiders, ManMadeMan, Hypnoise or Hypnocoustics alongside all BMSS Records residents.

In addition, Boom Shankar is part of the S.U.N. Festival crew in Hungary, the Alice im Wummerland party series in Germany, Moon Mountain family in Thailand, Belantara Festival in Malaysia and a dozen other projects in which he contributes his energy and time in order to promote psychedelic culture globally as a true ambassador of Trance.
